Why Brides Shouldn’t Chop Their Hair Off After Their Wedding
This insidious, unnerving trend needs to stop, here’s why
- It is traumatic for the husbands-who are put in a classic no-win situation.
”Marriage is supposed to be about two people making important decisions together, when my wife chopped off her long hair the day after our wedding I felt undermined and disrespected that she wouldn’t include me in such a major life change.”
-Jeffrey, 35
Bottom line: pulling a surprise like this erodes trust and respect in the long run. Marriage is supposed to be the merging of two bodies into one. Imagine if your husband got major surgery or gained excessive weight without talking to you about it first.
2. It is a classic example of a bait and switch technique.
“One of my favorite things about my wife was her long, gorgeous hair. Imagine my surprise when she chopped it off in between our wedding and reception. She mistook my tears as being happy-not realizing the intense anger and humiliation I felt at being tricked.”
-Adam, 27
Bottom line: Honesty is the best policy here. Imagine that he whoo-ed you with money and dreams of adventure only to realize he lives in his parents basement and believes VR is an acceptable alternative to world travels. If you plan to lure a man in with your long locks you should also be honest if your intent is to savagely chop them off without giving your man a heads up (so he can choose if he is ok with being with a short haired woman.)
3. It is a ubiquitous stereotype about women, which is why so many men are fearful of marriage.
“I never though my free-spirited wife, whose long wavy hair matched her joie-de-vivre personality perfectly, would succumb to such a lame trend. I no longer view her as exciting and free, but as a boring, predictable, stick up my ass.”
-Tenzin, 31
Bottom Line: Why be basic and predictable? Why do what everyone else is doing? Men hate women who follow trends and do things because others are. Instead of chopping it all off, why not try out some fun wigs and roleplay?
