Trans Women and Cis-Women Should Come Together and Recognize the Role that Hair Plays in their Lives
Basically we are two sides of the same coin, fighting for the right to be seen as female in a patriarchal society. Women with short hair defy the patriarchy in the same way that trans women defy it. And we are both redefining what it means to be a woman on our own terms. Maybe trans women have sex characteristics which are typically male. But short haired women consciously make this choice by making themselves look like men in a concerted effort. Why do both groups want to assert their femininity yet also want to transgress in their manifestations of femininity? Why does one choose to be a man while one seems all too eager to escape the confines of manhood? Are cis women privileged to be able to do something as temporal as cutting their hair short in a subversive act against femininity? While trans Owen have to fight tooth and nail to be considered a woman? Why should these two groups be lumped together? Let’s explore more about this topic.
Short haired women: they use their female privilege to choose to be seen as men. They want to be treated as men so don’t open the door for them or engage them in friendly small talk. These “women” want none of the cultural niceties most of us live by. They are angry and bitter about making the mistake of cutting their hair short and project their pain on to men. They think it’s our fault they have short hair. As if we wanted them this way. No man ever wants a woman with short hair.
Trans women: they long to be seen and experienced as real women yet lack the secondary sex characteristics to convince most white blooded Americans of their truth. Unfortunately they are unprivileged because many of them painstakingly maintain long hair only to be denied intimacy because of something as irrelevant as a penis, which like hair, can easily be chopped off.
Therefore we as men should give the benefit of the doubt to trans women because at least they’re trying to be real women in spite of all the difficulties. Women with short hair gave up their female privilege when they decided it would be easier to be seen and treated as a hardworking man. We should give them all the grief we’re given by society in being short haired.
