Hairstory: The History of Long Hair
A timeline of long hair through the ages
I’ve recently undertaken a new hobby in the midst of this protracted pandemic. I have been listening to the “Fall of Civilizations” podcast and I couldn’t help but wonder. Could the length of women’s hair have affected the rise and fall of these once great empires? I began to dig in and was somewhat astonished by what I found. Egypt fell to the “sea people” in what is known as the late Bronze Age collapse. Many have hypothesized that the “Sea people” were in fact phonecians. But the major distinction I want to focus on here is the hairstyles the women wore in each culture. At this time in Egypt (12th century BC) the women shaved their heads. The Phoenician women, on the other hand, were known to take pride in their cascading locks. In fact many women of this mysterious sea-faring group were required to keep their hair long if they hoped to be married.
The Mycenaean Greeks had forsaken their long haired idols.
Evidence can be found in their decorative stelae. The Phoenicians ruled over the Mediterranean and North Africa for many centuries only to eventually be overthrown by a revived new age of Greek civilization. The Mycenaean Greeks had forsaken their long haired idols. Pericles (of the Classical Greek era) dedicated the Parthenon to Athena one of the original long hairs. Greece was eventually overtaken by the Roman longhairs who even favored long hair on men. After the fall of Rome and subsequent rise of Byzantium we saw Christian long haired women who grew long hair because it was ordained by God.
After Byzantium came the Ottoman Empire with its harems full of long hairs. At this time in Europe long hair was seen as a status symbol. The longer the hair, the higher your class. For 500 years women scarcely had short hair.
It’s only a matter of time before America falls into its own dark ages.
Unfortunately this all came to an end in the “roaring” 1920’s. Women felt “liberated” (meaning they wanted to feel like a man.) soon after this disaster style took hold we saw the stock market crash and subsequent Great Depression. After women started cutting their hair short, America began its downward spiral and it hasn’t yet come back. Will the women of the USA continue to turn against the gods by cutting their hair short? As we can see from history short haired women are the prelude to a collapse. It’s only a matter of time before America falls into its own dark ages. Full of uninspired people who can’t be bothered to write their history down (I wonder why, short haired women are nothing of nite to write about.) if you’re reading this as an American woman now, do your part to save civilization and reinspire the masses. Grow your hair long today.
